NORMAN, OKLA. – Robyn Powell, an associate professor of law at the University of Oklahoma, received the Chai Feldblum Award at the American Association of Law Schools annual meeting, held Jan. 4.

The award, from the AALS Section on Law Professors with Disabilities and Allies, recognizes the work of faculty in the field of disability rights and is named for the former commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Powell is recognized as one of the country’s foremost authorities on the rights of parents with disabilities. She joined OU Law in 2022, where she teaches Family Law, Disability Law, Professional Responsibility and Public Health Law.

As a disabled woman, Powell has dedicated her career to advancing the rights of people with disabilities. For nearly five years, she served as an attorney-adviser at the National Council on Disability, an independent federal agency that advises the president and Congress on matters concerning people with disabilities. Previously, she served as a research associate at the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy at Brandeis University, Disability Rights Program manager at the Equal Rights Center in Washington, D.C., assistant director for policy and advocacy at the Disability Policy Consortium, and staff attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services.
