Paralegal Studies

The Department of Paralegal Studies, initiated by the OU Law Center in 1968, reflects the growing importance of paralegals in the law profession.

Why I Chose OU’s Paralegal Program

"I chose this program because of the reputation of OU Law, the endorsement of the ABA and the convenient schedule for working adults. The connections and relationships I made with students and faculty will be in my life forever. I am so thankful I chose to apply and take a risk when I did. The trajectory of my career and my life has totally changed in two short years! My only regret is that I did not apply sooner. I encourage you to apply to this program today." - Bre Little, Graduate

About the Program

Paralegals perform a variety of crucial tasks, including legal research, drafting legal documents, and interviewing clients. Our curriculum stresses understanding and reasoning rather than rote learning of facts. Our legal specialty courses are taught by practicing lawyers and paralegals who bring their real-world experience into the classroom.

The paralegal certificate program is flexible and convenient, with 100% synchronous and online courses (9 credits must be completed synchronously).

Paralegals cannot give legal advice, accept cases, set legal fees, represent clients in court or perform any legal service without the supervision of a licensed lawyer.
