The Comfort Scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards at OU Law. Through a generous endowment from William T. Comfort Jr. and James T. Comfort, OU Law awards merit-based scholarships to incoming students with exemplary academic qualifications and LSAT scores. The Comfort Scholarship is awarded without regard to financial need. Comfort Scholars are considered to be among the most outstanding group of incoming students.

The Frank and Edna Asper Elkouri Scholarship is one of our most impressive awards. Professor Frank Elkouri, a nationally noted authority on labor arbitration, joined the faculty in 1952 and remained with the College of Law for 58 years. Prior to joining the faculty, Elkouri practiced with the Oklahoma City law firm of Quinlan & Elkouri and was an attorney with the National Wage Stabilization Board in Washington, D.C., and Dallas. From 1952 until 1957, in addition to teaching, he was the advisor to the Office of the President at OU. Elkouri was appointed to a George Lynn Cross Research Professorship in 1975 and awarded the Whitney North Seymour Medal from the American Arbitration Association in 1980. Though he retired in 1985, he continued his leadership as professor emeritus at the law school through 2010. It is Frank and Edna Asper Elkouri’s desire to help defray the cost of tuition and educational expenses of a number of our most academically exceptional law students.

2026 Law Student Writing Competition

Each year, the Environment, Energy, and Resources Section sponsors law student writing competitions to (1) encourage law students to become involved in the Section and (2) raise awareness of and foster dialogue regarding legal issues related to environmental, energy, and natural resources law and encourage scholarship in these fields. The 2026 competition topics are:

• Air, Climate, and/or ESG
• Biodiversity and/or Water
• Energy and/or Resource Recovery
• Forest Resources, Public Land, and/or Mining
• Indigenous Law

Law students are encouraged to review the 2026 competition rules and enter one of the five competitions. The winner of each competition will receive a $1,000 cash prize! Entries are due by May 31, 2026.

The $25,000 “Be Bold” Scholarship is a no-essay scholarship that will be awarded to the applicant with the boldest profile.

To us, boldest does not mean “best”, or “most accomplished”. Being bold means being:

• Earnest
• Determined
• Moving

The scholarship will be awarded to the student whose profile is most bold, according to these characteristics.

Furthermore, this scholarship will be similar to the many easy scholarships available on Bold.org in that it will favor students who apply earlier—who are bold and seize the day without procrastinating.

Students at any education level, state, field of study, and GPA will be considered.

Durrell Public Law Research Award – The Durrell Public Law Research Award will be awarded to a student at the University of Oklahoma College of Law, the Institute for the American Constitutional Heritage at the University of Oklahoma or the Oklahoma City University School of Law.

The Oklahoma City Chapter of the Federal Bar Association established the Holloway Scholars Program in 2011. Through this Program and with support from the Northern/Eastern Oklahoma Chapter, the Oklahoma City Chapter provides scholarships for law students who demonstrate commitment to civility, professionalism, academic excellence and community involvement. The Oklahoma City Chapter established the scholarship program in honor of the late William J. Holloway, Jr., Senior Judge of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, whose kindness, integrity and high standards of excellence guided and inspired the legal community in the Tenth Circuit for over forty years. The scholarship recipients are known as the “Holloway Scholars.”

Eligibility

Law students who have completed at least one (1) year of academic course work in a Juris Doctor program at an ABA-accredited law school within the State of Oklahoma are eligible to apply. Holloway Scholars Program applicants should be student members of the Federal Bar Association by the date of application submission. Information on how to become a student member of the Federal Bar Association is available at http://fedbar.org.

Selection Criteria

Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria:• commitment to the pursuit of a legal career in practice areas involving the federal courts;

• commitment to and actions demonstrating ethics, civility and professionalism;
• academic merit, as demonstrated in undergraduate, graduate school, and law school transcripts;
• written and oral communication skills assessed through the application and interview process; and
• leadership qualities and community involvement.

Financial Award

Each recipient of the Holloway Scholarship will receive an award of at least $3,000.00.

Frederick J. Hoyt Memorial Scholarship Fund

Award Amount: $2,500-$5,000

The Frederick J. Hoyt Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by his wife, Rose Hoyt-Steele, to honor his life and legacy. 

• Applicants must be either incoming or current law students at OU College of Law or OCU College of Law.
• Preference for military veterans.

This scholarship was established to honor Judge Thomas Robert Cornish. Applicants must be incoming or current students at the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

The RMD Law Scholarship is designed to encourage creative thinking and support students in their academic pursuits.

• Award Amount: $2,500
• Eligibility: Open to high school seniors graduating in 2025 and students currently enrolled in college or university.

  Imagine you have the power to fix one common problem in your community, school, or the world.

Samba Recovery's Hope for Addiction Scholarship is an annual $1,000 award for students pursuing a degree with the goal of helping people and families affected by addiction or substance use disorders. The deadline to apply is February 28.

• Proof of college enrollment or acceptance
• Pursuing a degree with the goal of working with individuals and/or families impacted by addiction
• Completed application form
• An original 500 to 1000 word essay on how you are planning to use your degree to help individuals and families struggling with addiction, and why helping those affected by substance use disorder is important to you

Selection Process

The first 100 qualified applications will be reviewed by Samba Recovery’s Scholarship Board based on essay quality, inspirational message, and the applicant’s potential to create positive impact in the field of addiction recovery.
