About

Professor DeWalt is an Associate Professor of Legal Research and Writing. Professor DeWalt’s courses include Legal Research and Writing I, Introduction to Brief Writing, Oral Advocacy, Professional Writing for Litigators, and Legal Foundations. In addition, Professor DeWalt has coached several competitive skills teams, including teams for the ABA Negotiation Competition, ABA Mediation Competition, and the South Texas Energy Law Negotiation Competition, and for three years, she served as the national problem writer for the ABA Negotiation Competition.

Professor DeWalt joined the University of Oklahoma College of Law faculty in 2012 after serving as an associate attorney at Gungoll, Jackson, Collins, Box & Devoll, P.C. in Enid, Oklahoma.  While in private practice, Professor DeWalt focused on litigation involving oil and gas matters, construction law, commercial law, negligence, contract disputes, and property disputes. She received the award of Outstanding Young Lawyer from the Garfield County Bar Association. 

Professor DeWalt earned her Juris Doctor degree with Honors from the University of Oklahoma, where she served as a Note Editor for the Oklahoma Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif.  Professor DeWalt has served as a member of the Board of Editors for the Oklahoma Bar Journal and a Director for the Oklahoma Bar Association’s  Young Lawyer's Division. She was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association's Leadership Academy and is a past member of the Luther Bohanan American Inn of Court.
