OU’s Paralegal Studies program equipped me with the knowledge, tools, skills, connections, and confidence to face my second career head on. I spent 24 years with a career in project management, with absolutely no knowledge or experience in the legal field. After much research, I decided to enroll in OU’s Paralegal Studies program and immediately reached out to the Program Coordinator, Leslee Roybal. Leslee held my hand through the application and enrollment process and served as my academic advisor. I opted for the fast track course of study and completed all program requirements in fifteen (15) months. Those months were both life giving and breath taking and nourished my unexpected love and deep appreciation for the law.
Every instructor is so unique to their field and genuinely cares about helping each student succeed in the paralegal profession. The curriculum is robust and extremely challenging. Every assignment feels like an academic accomplishment, and I can honestly say I am proud of the work I’ve done. Upon completing the program, I have a portfolio that contains multiple legal memorandums, case briefs, civil pleadings, discovery documents, contracts, operating agreements, case studies, and motions. I completed two internships, gained interview experience, and transformed my resume. I received regular job postings from the department, as well as internship opportunities and job search assistance. I joined local and national paralegal associations and formed connections with other paralegals that became valuable sources of support and friendship.
The Paralegal Studies Program ignited a fire inside of me and opened a multitude of doors. It lays a foundation that breeds confidence, teaches skills that make you ready, and gives you tools to do the job. Whether young or old, I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in the legal field!
