NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma College of Law placed in the top five in national rankings for both the Blakely Moot Court Rankings and ABA Championship Challenge, again solidifying OU Law as one of the top law schools in the nation for competitions, skills and moot court.
“This is the ninth year OU Law has been ranked in the top twenty,” Connie Smothermon stated. “This is quite an achievement and due in large part to the many hours our coaches spent with our students.”
All competitions were held virtually this year over a variety of platforms. 97 students participated in 43 traveling competition teams with 24 faculty members, alumni and outside attorneys as coaches.
Morgan Vastag and Tanner Herrmann went undefeated at the Hunton Andrews Kurth Tournament of Champions and are this year’s national champions. The team also won best brief in the nation and Vastag placed 2nd for best speaker. The Hunton Andrew Kurth Tournament of Champions is by invitation only for the top 16 schools from the Blakely Institute’s Moot Court rankings.
Out of over 590 teams from over 90 countries, International Law Students Association (ILSA) awarded OU Law the 14th best combined memorial (brief) award at the world rounds. ILSA recognized the top 50 teams and only 5 teams from the United States were in the top 50. Those five United States law schools were Lewis & Clark Law School (t-42), Harvard University (t-33), Case Western Reserve University (t-17), University of Oklahoma (14) and Fordham University (t-9).
This year’s regional champions include the BLSA Moot Court team of Anamayan Narendran and Cameron Burleson and the OU Law ABA Client Counseling team of Hannah Whitten and Ashley Thompson.comp
