Frequently Asked Questions

Residency is determined by central campus. Resident status is granted to financially independent adults who are permanently residing in Oklahoma and who have been physically and continuously present in the State of Oklahoma for at least one calendar year prior to the first day of class attendance at any Oklahoma institution of higher education; and who, during this one-year period, resided in Oklahoma for some reason other than primarily to attend classes at a post-secondary educational institution. If you think you meet these requirements, you can submit a residency petition. Please work with a member of the Admissions Team to make sure you are on the right track in submitting a petition.

The policy can be reviewed by following this link.

Financial aid looks very different in law school than in undergraduate education. Typically, our law students are eligible for aid from the Direct Loan Program, meaning the federal government will lend you up to $20,500 per school year, called a Direct Unsubsidized Loan. You may also apply for a Direct PLUS Loan if this amount does not meet your education costs.

Other federal financial aid that you may be receiving for your undergraduate degree, like Pell Grants, likely will not apply to law school.

Contact the Student Financial Center for advisement.

AccessLex is a nonprofit resource that also provides resources for paying for law school like a scholarship bank, personal financial advising, and "student loan calculator".

The American Bar Association (ABA) requires that your official transcript from your degree-granting institution be included in your law school file. This must be an official transcript stating that your undergraduate degree was conferred with the date of graduation. To meet this standard, the College of Law has to receive the transcript directly from your undergraduate institution.

You will find out your Section at the annual Section Release Party held in June. Your Section and class schedule will be revealed so that you can develop community and relationships with your Section over the summer. The OU Law Registrar will then enroll you in classes later in the summer.

You are required to be in Norman by Monday, August 11, 2025, to complete Legal Foundations and attend orientation. Your regular class schedule will begin on Monday, August 18.

Of course! We would love to host you if you haven’t been able to visit campus yet. Reach out to the Admissions Team to schedule a tour and a class observation. You can also take a virtual tour here.
