OU College of Law Ranks #13 Nationally in Advocacy Program Rankings
Return to National Stage Marks Resurgence in Moot Court Excellence

The University of Oklahoma College of Law has proudly rejoined the ranks of the nation’s top advocacy programs, earning the #13 spot in this year’s Blakely Advocacy Institute rankings. This national recognition by the University of Houston’s Blakely Advocacy Institute reflects the strength and resurgence of OU Law’s Competitions Program following a year filled with success.

Each year, the Blakely Advocacy Institute compiles rankings based on competitive success at moot court tournaments across the country. The top 16 programs are extended a prestigious invitation to the Hicks Thomas National Moot Court Championship, an honor OU Law will once again enjoy.

“The return of our Competitions Program to national prominence is a testament to the extraordinary commitment and talent of our students, faculty, and alumni,” said Anna E. Carpenter, Dean of OU Law. “Our community continues to prioritize excellence in advocacy, and this recognition underscores the high caliber of our program.”

This academic year, over 90 OU Law students participated in interscholastic competitions from coast to coast, including events in New York City, Washington D.C., Portland, and Pasadena, demonstrating the advocacy skills, professionalism, and preparation that define OU Law’s approach to legal education. Two OU Law competitions teams even went on to be recognized as national champions in the California Sports Lawyer Negotiation Competition and in the Energy and Mineral Law Moot Court Competition.

“This achievement highlights the vital role experiential learning plays in legal education,” said Taylor Freeman Peshehonoff, Director of Competitions at OU Law. “Through moot court competitions, students sharpen the skills that define real-world legal practice: oral advocacy, persuasive writing, and collaborative teamwork. This program is one of the clearest ways we prepare students to advocate for real clients in real courtrooms.”

OU Law's continued success in these competitions is made possible by a dedicated network of coaches, professors, alumni, and peers who invest time, expertise, and mentorship into the development of student advocates.
